I think I understand a little about what your job entails, but still have a question.

Recently I applied for a position within the headquarters of a major department store chain here in my area. The position would be a Corporate Wellness Manager, and would be responsible for promoting health and wellness to the employees of the company, as well as be a health resource for them, also help them navigate with their insurance, etc. In the ad, the qualifications that they were looking for were a nurse, etc etc but also preferred a CCM. What would be the benefit to having this in the role I just described? I don't have a CCM and am not a case manager, but do have extensive experience creating wellness programs, so I applied. But was wondering what aspect of the job I might be missing?

Doesn't sound like you'd be missing very many aspects, at all. From your background that I know of, it sounds like you would be well suited for the position.
I'm guessing they want someone who knows how to utilize and access community resources, assist with COBRA and Social Security issues, is aware of how to coordinate insurances (i.e. a member with their insurance as primary and Tricare or CHAMPUS as secondary) to help the member obtain the maximum in benefits, etc. Also, you role may be in running an annual health or benefits fair so that the members are educated on what's available to them.
It sounds like you already have knowledge of these things.

Agreed Vegas. Anything you don't know, yu can easily pick up. Establishing your network of resources is the hardest part. Once you know who to call for what, it is easy.

One thing I would suggest is that you do a job analysis of all the positions, esp if there is not a job description for them, for the facility. I can send you a blank one and some samples so you can see what that entails if you get the job.

Sounds good. Did you interview yet?? Wish they had positions like that around me.

Just tell them you are willing to get a CCM in two years (you would need two yrs exp to apply to take test, one yr if working unbder the dircet sup of a CCM)

I didn't interview yet, and the whole story about the application process is a very long and contrived one (Stargazer has been up to speed on it and very supportive), but if I do get the job I promise I'll tell you all the whole story!

Vegas, I'm familiar with utilizing community resources, but not necessarily from the insurance aspect or social security ( I don't think) But I could learn. But I could see why they might want a CCM based on what you've described. Thanks!
