WooHoo! I did it! I finally got a job in Case Mgmt!

I have been applying and have interviewed for about 3 different positions, finally got an offer, just cleared all the background clearances, etc and start my 'new' Mon-Fri 7a-3:30 job! OMG, I am nervous, a little scared, I guess, just cause I don't know what to expect.
I have become so burnt out on bedside nursing, the shifts, politics, etc etc. I decided I needed a change, but don't want to leave nursing and have always liked the role of case management. So, without any case mgmt experience....off I went and now....here I go! I feel like I'm starting a new career! Can you tell I'm excited???
I guess there's nothing really anyone can tell me....about what to expect....
It's just such a different environment....not the hospital anymore.
When they told me the dress is "business casual"...I was like...hmmm, OK, I need a whole new wardrobe....all I have is scrubs, casual and dressy!
LOL, what a great excuse to go shopping!

Thanks for the link and for the encouragement!
So far, so good. There are 3 of us starting off together, so we are all in the same training "class". Of course, the first few days is all the "housekeeping" stuff....their computer system, email, P&P's, compliance training, etc. Then we spend 2-3 wks in a class room setting w/a trainer, going over managed care, etc. Then we go with a mentor .....start getting into the heart of it all. I am waiting for that...I do so much better "on the job"....I get so bored w/sitting in a class....oh well, all is good,.... important info, of course!

Congratulations, I can tell you are very excited. I have to say you will enjoy your new position. I have been in case management/mental health for 10 years, it is a very fulfilling job. Don't know what type you will be doing or if you will remain in an office. I spend majority of my days out in the community. Good Luck and again, congratulations!

I,too, just got my first case manager job. It's just me in the hospital and I do CM,UR and discharge planning. I know next to nothing about the UR part and am in desperate need of education. Any pointers out there for conferences or seminars for new case managers????

Very little traiining from former CM. Hoping to take a class sometime this year for some training. If there is any learning tools out there I sure would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
