You can go through a local community college or through one of the national associations to get your basic coding certificate. It's a good move, especially if you are going into the administrative side (ie. UM, CM, etc.,) of nursing. You'll learn more than just coding. You'll learn what's behind billing and reimbursement in a well-rounded program. On top of that, a coding certification will open up all sorts of doors for you as a nurse. Check out
