Case management certification

I am interested in hearing from those in the field which case management certification I should look into obtaining. I did a quick search on the Internet and see that there are several out there. Which one is considered the industry standard? I have done case management in several home health positions for over five years, but have never bothered to look into the certification. In browsing around for jobs, I see that in many positions the certification is desired. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ann

Re: Case management certification

Hi Ann

CCM is the designation that you probably want to get. I am going to have to look at that eventually. I have heard that it is a difficult test so I guess in my free time (LOL) I will study for it.

Re: Case management certification

I know several case managers, both hospital based and insurance based, who have their CCM. Apparently, it is a difficult test especially because many of the questions are geared toward rehab or workers comp. Many hospital case managers I know are happy to have earned the title but do not feel it has been them a "better" case manager.

Nonetheless, it certainly makes you more profitable as many postions do prefer it. If you have the time and the resources go for it!!

Smile Re: Case management certification

I just ran across your discussion.... I would go with CCM. I received my CCM about 7 years ago. The test is tough and covers the whole continuum of care. Some of the questions seemed like out of left field. I felt after the test that there was no way they were measuring my knowledge but when my friend and I received our scores, they were right on the money. We had different strengths and weakness and they were clear as day on our scores. Good luck.
