Exclamation What is MTHFR?

Can someone please tell me what MTHFR is? I work at an ICF/MR facility et we may be getting a new resident that has this disease. I have looked it up on the internet et cannot find very much info. Any info on what is is or how to care for someone with this disease would be helpful. Thanks!!!

hi did some research for you

Hi there,
found some info on the Ebsco Database. Please do not take this as definate as most articles were not peer reviewed. If you want more info email me and il send you the web address.
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase or MTHFR is a autosomal recessive disorder resulting in elevated homocysteine levels in plasma and urine. MTHFR catalyses the reduction of methylenetetrahydrofolate to methyltetrahydrofolate, a cofactor for homocysteine remethylation to methionine. MTHFR deficiency may be diagnosed from infancy to adulthood with a broad spectrum of clinical symptoms.
Sorry cant be more of a help, but now that you have a little info about it you may be able to research it easier.
Cheers
Amber
