Needing a little advice

I have recently interviewed for a job titled "Regional RN." Besides chart audits and maintaining license verifications for LVN's and the doctors being used, I would be supervising 8-10 LVN's taking care of 78 patients in 13 homes (avg. 6 patients per home). I've been given an estimated salary of 45K/year, does that seem a little low? I was also told that the insurance for my family will cost 2 times what I am paying now (working in the hospital). Can anyone give me an estimate/average salary for this type of work in the great state of Texas?
I've been an RN for 3 1/2 years (ADN), Just received my BSN in December of 2006.

Re: Needing a little advice

Unfortunately this field notoriously has lower salaries than hospital nursing. That doesn't sound too low to me for this field. I have not had a raise in 4 years. I keep getting told it is because Medicaid put a freeze on our funding for 3 years. That freeze should be up this year, but I bet we don't receive a raise. Good luck to you if you take the job. There are many rewards money is just not one of them.

Re: Needing a little advice

not sure about Texas but I was making about the same here in MA .. and i have over 25 yrs of nursing experience!!! I had 16 group homes with 4-8 individuals in each, and only 1 ( wonderful!! ) LPN, DD is not the field to make money in!! The rewards are definitely not monetary, and you will work very very hard but it is soooo worth it!

Re: Needing a little advice

Thanks to Aussie19 and DDRN4me. I have accepted the job as regional rn, I will start March 6th. I am looking forward to the change and new tasks. I've had one year experience working as an aid in a state school (93-94) and I have a brother that is severely MR with some Autistic characteristics. Thanks again to both of you for your time.
