What type of contact precautions are you using at your facility?

Gloves, gown, and mask? Or just gloves and mask?

On our peds floor they do all of it because if you have admits and if it is just a rule out they don't want you to have "contaminated" clothes.

I"m second semester doing pediatric rotation and all my patients have been RSV. We do gown, mask and gloves. We also clean machines (B/P, etc) and stethoscopes with sanitizing wipes when we bring the stuff out of the room.

I don't gown up on if I'm just stepping in the door for a second and not going near patient, but do use everything if I'm actually going anywhere near patient. Not taking any chances with taking it home to my 6 year old or anywhere else.

We actually have stethascopes provided by the hospital as each bedside so that we don't need to worry about using our own. Also, a penlight is at each bedside..............really makes it nice. Helps keep the worry about cross-contamination way down.

We use gowns, gloves, and mask, but have been hearing that some other facilities around the country were no longer using gowns. Wanted to get others opinions on this.

The hospital does have the disposable stethoscopes, but noone uses them. It is very hard to hear murmurs, wheezes, etc very well with those scopes.

At our facility we use contact meaning gown, gloves, and mask if your are directly working with the patient(suctioning). I know the CDC had been looking into going back to droplet precautions due to the fact that it may live on objects for 6-8 hours. Our infection control department is also investigating this.

We use gloves and gown if coming into contact with anything in the room (or the child of course), and mask only if in close contact. However, if the parent wants to stay for long periods of time, and states that they will not go to other parts of the hospital (cafeteria, gift shop, etc), they are allowed to not gown/glove/mask for their comfort. We emphasize good handwashing for everyone.

Our parents must put on gown and mask and gloves..............anyone staying at the bedside, even for just a few minutes. No one can definitely say that they won't make a stop in the hospital, and they are still leaving with everyone else. I even refcommend that the parents go home and shower before picking up their other children, especially if the others are small and could be quite susceptible.
