Big Decision!

Right now I am trying to decide whether or not to work at the familiar peds rehab unit I have worked on for almost a year as a tech, or take the job as a new grad on the PICU. My long term goal is to be an NP running a clinic in the rural areas of Kenya. Soooo...I am thinking I want to learn how to think. But couldn't I do that a couple years after easing into the nursing role at the rehab hospital? Or why would I do that when i have the opportunity to jump right into the PICU? There are just alot of changes coming up as you all know, including my wedding the first week of October. Children's rehab has more incentives\benefits and seems the most logical. PICU is where I think my heart is. Im observing tomorrow. Ill take annnny advice I can take.

Re: Big Decision!

I graduate in Dec., but have a friend who started as a new grad 10 or so years ago in the PICU. She told me that I need to start in ICU, be it PICU or SICU or whatever. She said they really teach you how to think and it's the best place to start your career. Hope it helps.
