Finding Camp Nurses

I need to find an overnight nurse for our camp located in suburban Philadelphia. Does anyone know people who are interested or have any suggestions for recruiting camp nurses? It seems like it is very difficult to find nurses for the summer.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Re: Finding Camp Nurses

Try sending flyers to local hospitals--I've seen them around and heard nurses talking about possibly going to camp. Yes, it is difficult! Camps can't usually offer the kind of salaries hospitals offer, and many nurses have family obligations. Good luck!

Re: Finding Camp Nurses

I don't know if this is a good idea or not. How about cold calling some of the school nurses in the area. How about calling the schools in the area and getting the names and addresses of the school nurses and handwrite a letter explaining the camp perks ( free room and board, free camp for their kids, # of days off) and how their area of expertise would make a perfect fit for your camp. Give them a number to call to find out more information and to pass this info along to any school nurse friends with children that would like free camp tuition and a great experience. Maybe if you have a Curves Fitness Center for women, you could do a job posting and place it on their bulletin board. The nursing spectrum and nursing advance often have a few camp positions too. (don't know the cost). Community paper under classified, make sure to put something catchy like,

Re: Finding Camp Nurses

This is the first time that I have had trouble finding a nurse to join our team of 4 RN's . We are lucky to have a full time MD which is a great feature. I am a school nurse and have tried all of my friends who work in my area. 3 of us are returning so I am lucky to only need 1 more. I wish you luck and if you find 2, send one my way. The camp I work at is in the Catskill Mountains of NY. lori 646-670-8944
