Hi all! (I posted this in another forum, and then I discovered the camp nursing forum, so now it's here!)

I volunteered for this organization last summer and I had an awesome time, just thought I'd share...

The organization is called Camp Kudzu, and it provides summer camp programs for children ages 8-18 with diabetes. There are two separate one-week sessions, the first runs for a week in mid-June, the second runs for a week in late July - early August. Each week is held at a different location (both are in Georgia), the first week in June is at Camp Twin Lakes (about 45 minutes past Conyers, GA going I-20 east), and the second week is located at Camp Barney Medinitz (in the North Georgia mountains; more or less a two-hour drive from the Atlanta area). You DON'T have to know ANYTHING about diabetes, the camp staff will teach you everything you need to know. They need all positions from cabin counselors, activity leaders, logistical support, and medical staff - they use a bare minimum of 300 volunteers a year, but they'd really love if they had at least 200 for each week (hopefully a total of 400+ volunteers), so if you are interested, definitely think about applying! (We especially need guys to come and volunteer to be counselors, so it'd be great if we have some guys apply!) Feel free to spread the word to others who may be interested!

In the case that you know a child with diabetes that would like to come to camp, the camper applications for either location are due on February 20th.

I volunteered here last summer on the activity staff, and I had an amazing time, so I am extending the invitation as I figured other people here would be interested - speaking of activities, there are lots, name it and they probably have it, everything from the typical sports, games, arts & crafts, and fishing to the not-so-typical, like water skiing, archery, a ropes course, zip lines, sailing, mountain biking, and more (some activities vary by location) - again, you don't have to have diabetes, and you don't have to know anything about diabetes, just be willing to have fun and make a difference in the lives of some very special kids!
