Smile Camp suggestions in NY MA or NH

Hello,
I am a new school nurse and was thinking about camp nursing. Can anyone suggest a good camp in New York, Mass, or New Hamp? I have those licenses already.
I need to bring along my 5 year old daughter.
I appreciate any feedback, your opinion is more valuable than anyone elses!
Thanks!
Melissa

Re: Camp suggestions in NY MA or NH

Go to the Camp Nursing forum on this page, in there I posted a conference , check out the website it directs you it's a camp nurse website and there are job opportunities on there. Also google camps in your respective states. Take a lookat a few prior to making your decision. Base it on yours and your daughter's needs. Also, work most of the summer, but take a few weeks off before school starts so you don't burn out. Also you can try a YMCA camp. I love them. Go to the camp nursing forum. You will get a good feel for it and the perks are always that your daughter goes for free and you get a paycheck. She is 5 so you may want a day camp, but an overnight camp is not out of the question either. She can usually go to the daycamp part of the camp and stay with you on the hours that they don't have camp. I did that with my then 4 year old son. Post this on the camp nurse forum , click at the top of the page and look at the bottom. The specialties are in alphabetical order.Hope to see you on the camp nurse forum! Betty

Re: Camp suggestions in NY MA or NH

Just a heads up....5 years is VERY young and having you AT the camp with her could very well make it harder on both of you. PM me if you want to talk more. I was a camp nurse last year with my (not quite) 7 year old daughter and while it was fun in a LOT of ways, it was very difficult in a lot of ways too. Camp Staff said that kids who have parents as staffers routinely have a harder time if they are younger.

I think it depends on whether you want to integrate the five-year-old with camp activities--I do think that would be fairly difficult with such a young child--but if you have permission to simply keep your daughter with you, I have seen that work just fine.

I've worked at this camp for three summers, and will be returning this summer. It's in NH just south of Lake Winnipesaukee. Basic YMCA camp, all girls, and very well run. Give it a look-see.

PM me if you have any questions.
