Camp nursing: where to find opportunities?

Hello all! I have just given 2 weeks notice at the LTC facility I work at. I was thinking that this would be a perfect time to try out summer camp nursing! It sounds so fun.

Does anyone know where I can find these opportunities? I live in Missouri, but am very close to Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

Thanks to all who reply!

Re: Camp nursing: where to find opportunities?

Excellent! It IS fun, and very challenging in ways that are new to most nurses. I do know of a camp in Missouri that's looking for a nurse (I hope it's OK for me to post it here?). It's called Camp Cedarledge; the employment web address is http://www.gscgsl.org/camp/openings.asp. (I have no personal connection with the camp, just saw this posting elsewhere.) Cedarledge is a Girl Scout camp. If you're interested in other Girl Scouts camps, the easiest way to find them is to search for "Girl Scout council Arkansas" (or whatever state you prefer). Most states have several councils; most councils have at least one camp.

For other opportunities, check out the Association of Camp Nurses webpage (http://www.campnurse.org), http://www.acacamps.org, and http://www.campstaff.com (this site is directed at counselors, but the camps do list their health positions as well).

Good luck with your search!

Re: Camp nursing: where to find opportunities?

Thank you for the great info, Wendy! I'm definitely going to check those links out and do some searching.

I wish I could go to NY state, but alas! Not in the cards right now.
