Evening all,
I'm needing the expertise of all you Cardiac Nurses. I was doing my rotation in Hemodialysis today and the pts I interviewed stated he had had an MI not long after his Kidney transplant. I was looking through his chart getting all the needed info I need for my paperwork and came upon the dx of: NSTEMI. Ok, since I had the info from the pt, I know that the MI ending of that must be Myocardial Infarction. Or at least with an educated guess, thats what I think the MI stands for in that dx.

If it helps he also has A-Fib.

My question is what is a NSTEMI??

Ok I found what it stands for but I'm not too sure what it all really means...Non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) or "non-Q-wave MI": This heart attack, or MI, does not cause typical changes on an electrocardiogram (ECG). However, chemical markers in the blood indicate that damage has occurred to the heart muscle

Treatment differs depending on if the pt presents with ST elevation (STEMI) cf one without ST elevation (NSTEMI).
