Question How is the work load on med/tele floor

Hi everyone,
I started working on a med/tele floor three months ago and I am finding it rough. There is so much to do. Is it the same where you are?

I was a charge nurse on med-tele for two years. I agree it is tough.

Good luck. Welcome!

Welcome to allnurses.com!

I moved your post to the Cardiac Forum, where you can meet up with other Tele nurses.

Re: How is the work load on med/tele floor

I'm a new nurse on a tele floor for 6 months. Yes, it's tough, but the pt load is less than other floors. I usually have 4 or 5 pts. Saturday I started with 5, d/c 3, and ended the shift with only two!! It was still a busy day, but it was such fun to have only two pts for a few hours.

Re: How is the work load on med/tele floor

I've worked cardiac tele for many years. It is tough. In my hospital the nurse-patient ratio is 6:1 day and night. Which is difficult. We actually perform as an imu. We get post cath, simple inteventions, drips, step down patients from the ccu and medicine overflow in need of tele monitoring. We have lost a lot of very good nurses over the past year because of staffing. There is a plan to convert us to 4:1, but there are no trained nurses immediately available to make that happen, so we wait.

Re: How is the work load on med/tele floor

I quess nursing in all specialty is the same everywhere as nurses shortage increases. At my hospital they try to maintain a 6 to 1 ratio. However, as the holiday and hurricane season approaches nurses are taking vacations and agency nurses are resting?
But where are nurses going it is an international crises.
Telemetry nursing is interesting, it offers maximum experiences and positive outcomes. I think straight tele floors might be less hectic unlike med or surg/tele which most time donot have patients on monitor they are admiited for mulitple other reasons. Anyone in just telemetry? if so what is your take on this?
