Heart skipping beats....

Does anyone know why my heart skips beats, sometimes a couple at a time. It takes my breath away. Should I be concerned?

It could be any number of things but none of us can Dx you on a message board (nor should we try to). You really should see your M.D. Particularly if this is a common occurence. I hope you feel better.

I do agree with Ratchet...

Anyone who finds their heart is not beating normally, especially when its not unual, they should definitely get checked...

No I am on no diet pills but am diabetic for 21 years now. I have had it checked out had a stress test and they said everything was fine. I had one dr. tell me that if I didn't pay attention to it that I wouldn't even know it was there!!!

Anybody with irregular heartbeats should see a Dr. What concerns me more with you--you're symptomatic. (SOB)
A number a things cause irregular heart beats. (smoking, stress, certain RX's, heart dx. and etc...etc....etc.)
Please see a dr. ASAP.

A side note--we put a upper 20 year old co-worker whom had 5 children, smoked constantly, if not smoking drinking caffeine, working a lot while in nursing school. You should have seen all her PVC's.

What about other caffeine, Nutrasweet (or other artificial sweeteners), MSG, calcium supplements, or alcohol? Do you keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day? Is your heart in rhythm?

Stephera, don't let all this talk freak you out. Palpitations (esp. pvc's) are very common, and MOST of the time benign. If you've had a stress-test and other stuff to 'check it out', your doc's would've seen an arrythmia....and would know if you have any underlying coronary disease. (if you're worried about an MI). This is why they said not to worry. The biggest problem you might be having is the Doc's (and others involved w/your care) not explaining everything in greater detail. A very good test would be a 24-hour halter monitor...especially if you werent having palpitations during your stress-test, ecg's, etc. You may want to bring this up w/your doc. Again, pvc's are common, usually benign, but can make you feel like your heart is doing flips....
