My name is Jason and I was wondering if this is a good specialty area? Have most of you enjoyed cardiology as an area of specialty. I am interested in this mainly because I think that the heart is amazing! How many more years of study after nursing school? Is it best to jump right into school for a specialty area right after nursing school? Thanks you and cant wait to hear from you all.

Iloved my time in telemetry/cardiac unit. People who have problems with their heart get very scared, rightly so, and if you can help them feel better, they will never forget you. After school, you just have to get on with an organization who will put you to orient in a telemetry unit. It is not considered a Trauma/ER specialty and therefore usually does not require extra class room time. It would depend on the organizaiton though. If you have an interest in the heart and a basic understanding of the electrical conductivity, mechanisms and standard medications then you already have a distinct advantage. If you chose to work for an agency though, they do consider it a specialty for extra pay. I hope that this has been helpful.

I started on a telemetry unit when I graduated, and I love it. I find there is enough repitition to gain some competency, but there is enough to keep it very challenging. Good place to start!
