Re: EKGs.....I think I'm screwed!

I haven't really been back here since I posted this but I'm glad I got some input. I took ACLS this past week and it was great! The guys who taught it were medics who do this sort of thing all the time and most of us were m/s, onc, med, surg nurses so they didn't expect us to know it all by heart.

We learned so much because they didn't make it stressful for us. I heard the year before that the people who taught it were AWFUL and were almost trying to fail people. Things actually started making sense and no longer will I EVER b**** about having to renew my CPR card!!!

I'd heard from people that it should take a year to be comfortable as a nurse, but I didn't really think of it taking a year to be good at strip reading too! I've recently discovered the tele floor though, and those peeps are great!!

Thanks a lot for all the positive talk and I'll just keep studying!

Gotta go to work now!

Katie, glad your ACLS went so well.
A good (sensitive and knowledgeable) teacher can make all the difference!

And Jon, you're SO right re: learning The Rules and then applying them to reading EKGs.

Re: EKGs.....I think I'm screwed!

I understand how u feel. I have been a nurse for 14 years. I have worked tele with a unit secin addition to other depts. i recently was in managment so for 5 years been off the floor. iI have decided I want back on the floor and am wondering if I made a wrong decision as I have had the hardest time with the strips. I just signed up for acls and took the pre test to see where i stand ahhhhhhhh i just killed all my patients!!!! I got every one wrong. Then my girlfriend came over and said no prob. well she too got every one wrong that she triedtoday i have worked on the basics and rates with vtach vfin and pea. I have 17 days before the test and still am stressed. Any suggetions?

Re: EKGs.....I think I'm screwed!

Land, you need help with only the ACLS strips, or with reading EKGs in general?
