Re: change from nicu to cath lab

Hello,

I went from PICU/Pediatrics to the Cath Lab about 4 months ago. I LOVE IT!!! It is a totally different mindset. I still get ribbed about pushing the meds slower than they like, but that is my comfort level. My co-workers still rib me about "babying" the patients, but they are comforted by that and tell me so.
Be aware that most cath lab nurses are VERY TYPE-A personalities. Be sure of the type and length of orientation that they offer. It is very different, but rewarding as well. I still prn at PICU/pediatrics so I can get my "pedi fix". I do miss my chronic/chemo kiddos, but really enjoy the cath lab. I love learning, the docs are amazing about teaching.
Good luck and keep me posted on your decision
