Just a question to all of you cath lab nurses.
Do you work extended shifts ( 10's or 12's) in your cath lab?
We have 7 nurses in our unit and there is some disagreement
about starting the extended shifts, which would give us each an
extra day off. It would of course change the OT from over 8
hours to after 40 hours. I love the idea.

Re: Cath Lab hours

Fortunately our manager TRIES to accommodate young mothers, and old ladies (like me) and those in between. Our staff mix has RNs and techs. I work 4 10s, and so do some of the techs. Some RNs work 12s, and so do some of the techs. We still have 1 or two on 8's. Managers may find the scheduling a little more challenging, but I think the effort is worth it - for example - do we really need full staff at 0730 EVERYDAY? (Our chronic late sleepers, like me, start at 8:30) I am much more prone to volunteer for extra duty when I'm not sleep deprived, or cranky.... (no more PMS for ME, but its all around me!)
