You may want to look into interviewing for a telemetry unit. Given your background as a patient you probably have an abundant amount of knowledge that you could apply to being a staff nurse (patient education foremost!). You would be required to take a basic EKG interpretation course, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and an arrythmia course. I was fortunate to have hired in as a new grad and received all of my education while on my orientation. Since you have a nursing background, that will help in the experience department in general. Keep your eyes open in the nursing job section for Telemetry nurses. To me, this is the best place to start and get some cardiac experience. You can advance after some experience (some require a few years of experience) into a Coronary Care Unit or Cath Lab. The possibilities are endless!
