Hi, everyone! I'm a first year nursing student and am doing a case study on CAD.

Which one of these problems is potentially life threatening to the client?

Salt, sugar, fat, chocolate and caffeine

Would it be salt b/c it would inc his BP?

Thanks!

Most likely caffeine because it causes vasoconstriction which might close off a vascular lumen already narrowed by CAD. Chocolate is in the xanthine family, like caffeine is. You are correct, salt might increase his circulating fluid volume and possibly his BP. If the pt is diabetic, then they are already at increased risk for CAD, and sugar would elevate triglycerides. It always helps to know a little hx about the pt, whenever possible.
