Would Business Classes Help with Nursing Career?

I am a junior who just recently decided to go into the nursing feild. (I was pre-med at first) I decided to graduate then apply for an accelerated nursing program. My alternative would be to enroll in the Asscociate nursing degree program at my school, but they only have a LPN program and I want to be an RN.

My question is would minoring in Business Adminstration or Economics be a good idea. Would it help my nursing degree in any way?

Re: Would Business Classes Help with Nursing Career?

Sure, especially if you're going into an accelerated BSN program. I minored in business the first time around, even though I had no idea I'd wind up in nursing. We BSN students usually have to take some type of management class (I'm in it now), and my business experience makes most of the concepts review. Plus, in case you haven't noticed, health care IS a business. If you understand basic business concepts you'll be an asset to your manager. Even if you only plan to work at the bedside right now, things might change for you once you get older, have kids, get a bad back/knees etc., and you may eventually take a management position. Obviously, a business background will help you be more competitive. Nursing is so broad almost any coursework is applicable in some manner or another, but if you already have an interest in business or a few courses completed, finish it up!
