I'm 57 years old. Is that to old to become a nurse?

It depends if the universities/colleges have an upper age limit for nursing classes.

Not at all! One of my classmates in an accelerated BSN program is 57 years old, and she's doing great.

I don't have any specific area of nursing that I'M interested in. Upon graduation, would becoming a floor nurse be a good idea?

That is up to you ... There are plenty of people your age who are presently starting or finishing nursing school. However, be aware that nursing school is very demanding physically, as well as intellectually and emotionally.

Only you can decide how much you have to give and how much effort you want to invest (and that applies to anyone, regardless of age ... ). Best wishes!

Oh, My I hope not, I'm 58 and graduated last year, I love working in a LTC facility. I was a sales rep befor that, This is so much more rewarding. I really care about my residents and as I read these posts from other nurses I sense that being overworked was not something you all thought would happen, or staying late to get charting done wasn't excepted.( I do wish people would only have a critical need when I had time to deal with it, and as for those inconsiderate people that die, right before shift change, don't know how to tell them how rude it is.)Only kidding, sorta, It will be tiring, and trying, and overwhelming, but it is the most rewarding job you can ever have.. love to be a nurse.

What are your goals? When do you plan to retire? Is the expense worth the payback of working a few years? How is your health? Can you tolerate working long shifts and being on your feet for long periods of time? How is your back and your knees? Do you get along with younger people, one of whom might be your supervisor and young enough to be your grandchild?

Not to discourage you, but nursing can be a tough and demanding profession to enter in towards what should be the end of your working careeer.
