I am 23 and trying to go back to school. I was in early childhood education but didn't graduate with a degree. I am now thinking about pursuing my dream job, which is too work with newborns at the hospital. I was wondering who all works in the nursery and and what are there duties. I've heard about nursing assistants working there, and that is what i want to do, like feed, change and bathe babies. If I would do that, I would have to get training to be a CNA right? Thanks

When I worked in a newborn nursery, we didn't have CNAs or anything like that, although it woulda been nice! Most hospitals have couplet care units though, therefore the babies stay with the moms ..... so I can't imagine a lot of hospitals would staff a CNA just in the nursery. Might check out couplet care units though, they would have a need for CNAs.

Our newborn nursery has an all RN staff because it's the RNs who can assess and monotor the babies.

When I worked in the nursery we had "nurse's aides" but as we went with "rooming in" there were less and less aides. There is some need for someone to help with feeding but not enough to hire anyone.
I would keep going with your education and become a RN. Working in maternal child is so rewardign. Good Luck
