Hello,

I recently turned down an offer for a job with American Laser Center. Reason being I am not ready to move-I currently live in the midwest and the ALC I applied with was far away. Long story short my mom initially encouraged me to do this then when I got the job she and my dad completely went crazy because I was going to move. I was so stressed I decided it wasn't worth it. The thing is I am really interested in working as an aesthetics nurse. I do not have any experience in other areas of nursing. I graduated a few years back and had no desire to practice. I would now like to return to nursing and work in a medical spa. Do you think I lost my chance or do you think with adequate training ( I plan on taking an aesthetics course) that I will be offered a job at a medical spa?

I am currently an esthetician and decided to go to nursing school once I realized I was interested in doing the more medical procedures in the medical spa that I was working at. I will be graduating at the end of June and am kind of wondering what is out there, as you are. But, I thought it is regulated state to state as far as what you can do being a nurse and what you can do as an esthetician. I know that being an esthetician, my license is under cosmetology. I wouldn't think that you are too late with the whole laser job. My friend who is an RN worked for American Laser, they paid to train her (airfare and all), but she didn't make what a laser tech made (and she wasn't even medically trained!). So, I think it depends where you work too. Let me know what you find out. Good Luck

Where exactly are you looking to work first of all?
Secondly, i personally wouldnt waste your time or money going to aesthetic school...
If hired as an RN, you are paid as such... aestheticians are paid LESS and can only administer certain treatments depending on location (another reason why i ask your specific location).
Next, as an aesthetic nurse you should concentrate on specializing on the procedures only medical professions are allowed to perform, especially injectables.
Lastly, most hiring managers will look at someone like you as an IDEAL candidate, due to your lack of aesthetic experience (however injectable experience is a good foundation to have if possible - but not technically required as they will train you), because usually experience with lasers, other companies etc... means habits formed that the new company will have to overcome with you (as they want you to follow THEIR set protocols not what you learned elsewhere).

Im happy to give you any advice desired in this subject matter if i can... just let me know your specifics and what info you'd like.

btw - My current career (that will soon change as i am going back to school for nursing soon) specialized in Aesthetic Medical Management & Consulting around the United States, developing new practices for physician, turning established ones into national corporations, restructuring & retraining staff at financially struggling ones and doing trainings in marketing, consultative sales, staff development and management in every level of medical aesthetic facilities.

bubba22 - at ALC everyone is paid based on their own performance & skill set. you're friend either got the short end of the stick or was comparing herself to an esthetician that's pay was based on experience, sales bonuses & increased responsibilites within the organization.
Nurses are generally the highest paid HOURLY employees within a med spa or medical aesthetic facility - hourly pay being the only factor ofcourse.
