Pharmacology..Help??

Hi, I am new to allnurses.com and am a 1st semester nursing student. We just started doing drug dose calculations and really didn't go over it in class and have a test and we start clinicals next week. Does anyone have some advice on calculating drug dosages?? Anything will help, I'm kinda freaking out. Also could you tell me what formula is mainly used in hospitals? Thanks so much!

D/H x Q=X

dose over what you have X quanity =X so if you have 200 mg/5 mL and the order in 400 mg

dose is 400mg/have 200 mg x quantity 5 ml = 10 mL
that is the usual type of problem

good luck Nancy
