Nursing School Program advice.

All you nursing students out there please lend me your ear and give me your $.02 cents..

After working in an unfulfilling job in the advertising world, at age 29, I decided to shift gears and go back to school for Nursing. Right now, I'm finishing up my pre-reqs and kicking ass in them but my undergrad cum GPA is low (2.44). I'm aiming for the accelerated BSN program so I can get it done in 1 year or so.

I spoke to one school rep yesterday and he literally crushed all my hopes. I know I shouldn't let ONE school rep put my hopes down but I couldn't help but let it get to me because I knew that from the start my undergrad GPA would cause a problem, come time, for me to apply for the Accelerated BSN programs.
Most schools do not require the ACT exam so that's one less thing I have to worry about but.. how big of an impact does my undergrad GPA have that was done 6-7 years ago?

Any advice? Any input would really help.

Thanks!

Re: Nursing School Program advice.

Did you ask about tutoring assistance maybe to help bring up your GPA with classes? Or, speak to another rep, because I've learned not to just rest all my hopes upon one individual. Someone there has knowledge of how to help you get into this program and help you succeed. Don't you give up!

Thanks Kwality.

I'm wondering if volunteering for an EMT or something similar at a hospital would look good on my application.
Any thoughts?

Re: Nursing School Program advice.

Some schools have cut offs for previous grades. I know that when I first went to college, I quit halfway through a semester (read: didn't drop the classes, just quit going), joined the Navy the next day and never looked back. Until....I was 30 and wanted to go back to nursing school. Not many schools willing to look at a 0.7 gpa! lol So...I picked up another associates degree in general studies and then didn't have to count the first foray into higher education! Would that be an option???
