Question New Nursing student question.

I am 23 years old and a male. I just began college and I am going into the nursing field. I am looking into the field a little more trying to see what I should do with nursing. I think I want to be an RN but I dont know if I should specialize in something. any Ideas for me? Also kinda wanted to get a general idea of what pay scales there are in different fields of nursing. any information can and will help me. You can email me with information also at tttshock@hotmail.com. Thank you for all your help and taking the time to read this.

Hi Troy
Welcome to ALLNURSES.
One of the great things about nursing is the flexibility to change areas easily. Wait until you start your Nursing classes. A lot of us went into nursing with an area that we just knew we wanted to be in only to go to a clinical in another area and realize this is where I want to be. I cannot answer the pay question.
Good luck to you.

Greetings Troy.

Here in Nevada new nurses start at 25/hr plus pretty good benefits. Add some overtime and shift differential and you can start pulling down a pretty good chunk-o-change. By the time you pass your boards it may be even more profitable since our nursing shortage is the worst in the country, our educational system cannot keep up with the vacant positions and our population is the fastest growing in the United States.

Plus it's a pretty cool place to live and we have no State income tax.

Nothing wrong with the Vegas area, but I like living 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe and world class skiing.
