Greetings to all. I have an interview with a nurse manager of one of the Med/Surg units at my local community hospital on Tuesday afternoon. This nurse manager is known to me because I did clinicals in school on her unit, so I think I will feel very comfortable interviewing. I am generally a good interview anyway. However, here's my question...The job I currently have that I wish to leave was my very first job as a nurse and I have only been there 4 months. The position turned out to be such a let down. I was promised many things when I was hired that have yet to materialize. Such as, an IV class to teach me how to start IVs (we did not receive this training in school
, a Telemetry class so that I can read my pts. tele strips myself, and a couple of nights of rounding with the respiratory therapist for the experience. I have asked several times for this promised training and am told each time that they just haven't put together the classes yet. Anyway, long story short, I'm ready to leave. I want to make sure that I am interviewing the nurse manager just as she is interviewing me. I don't want to make the same mistake again.
Any advice on specific questions I should ask or topics I should be sure to touch on during the interview is greatly appeciated. I would especially like to hear from nurse managers who interview potential employees!
