I'm currently taking a semester long CNA class at our local community college. I plan on applying to nursing school in a few years and thought it would be a good way to prepare (hope to take other pre-reqs next year). While working part time as a CNA (I'm a SAHM & don't have a lot of time to work) isn't exactly my dream job, I wanted to at least have the option of being able to work as a CNA, should I need to, before applying to school.

Apparently, we can only miss 1 class. If we miss more than 1, we are not eligible to take our state exam (we're in CO). We still can complete the course and get the college credit for it.

It looks like tonight will be my first time missing class-there's an 11,000 foot mountain pass covered with ice and snow between my and the college, and my husband is refusing to let me drive over it tonight b/c it's just horrible driving conditions (and I agree...it's taking my life in my hands on a day like today). Since it's only February, I'd bet that in the next 2 months I will also have to miss another class for weather related reasons, making me ineligible to take the state test. My instructor is apparently not willing to work with me on this one-no way to make up course hours. I can still continue the class and get a grade/college credit though.

Is it worth continuing in this class if I can't take the state exam? Will it mean anything to nursing schools when I apply, to have taken the class (but not be state certified)? It's not exactly a prerequisite, but it seems to mean something if you are a CNA. It frustrates me b/c I am sure I can ace this class. It seems a little inflexible to me. Anyone in a similar situation? BTW, there are no real "good" locations that offer CNA courses-all are about an hour away, and in CO weather's always a problem in the winter...
