looking for job

I am a brand new nurse working as a pct in the OR dept of my local hospital. I am trying like crazy to find a LPN position in my hospital, but am having no luck!! There are plenty of openings for RN positions. I am beginning to feel that I just wasted over a year of school, hard studying, passing NCLEX the first time, ... all for nothing!! I know we in a nursing shortage, but are hospitals only short staffed of RN's.

Re: looking for job

I don't know of many hospitals who use LPN's, and if they do, the positions are extremely limited. You would have better luck looking for a position in long term care, home care, or a MD ofc.

Re: looking for job

There isn't an employer anywhere who won't hire an RN over an LPN in general, if given the choice. You stand a better chance at getting employment as an LPN if you go to long term care facilities. Acute care facilities that offer LPN positions at all, usually are looking for special skills and experience. You just have to keep a close watch for openings and be persistent in your search. You never know when an opportunity may present itself. Good luck.

Re: looking for job

Have you ever considered working outside of a hospital environment?

Re: looking for job

I'm in Montana, but my sister works in California for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She loves it, surprisingly.
