Keep going or turn back around ? you tell me

Hi im tell you a little bit about myself, um im kinda new to this site, im in first year of college, i like helping people out, i really love kids (yes im a guy and just cause i like kids and i want to be a nurse dont mean im gay lol) ANYWAYS i want to become a pediatric nurse and Im alot more comfortable of pursuing this then any other careers that i have thought of.

But

sometimes i think about what if i do make it , and i mess up or i accidently hurt a kid or something having thoughts like these usually leave me doubting myself?

Do yall think im just nervous and is this normal , should i still pursue nursing ?

THX YALL sry for the long post

to me being a guy doesn't matter. What matters is studying and keeping up to date, if in doubt about anything no matter how long you have been qualified ASK. If worried about anything get it double checked. You are always learning with nursing no matter where you work, don't take risks and you should be ok. Mistakes may happen the important thing is to take care before hand and if it happens learn from it.

Don't worry, being nervous is perfectly normal. And making mistakes is normal as well. Just follow the advice of the post above and you'll do fine.

And don't worry what people think. Yes, there are those who think all male nurses are gay, but that stereotype is (hopefully) fading as more men enter nursing. Pediatrics, actually is one of the more common fields for male nurses.

Hey!! Great question. And one I think many of us have had in our early careers. If you follow your procedures and safe practices that are meant to protect patients the risk of injury falls dramatically. It is when nurses are rushed or sloppy that serious errors happen. You will learn ways to protect your patient, like the 5 rights of medication administration...and to look up meds you don't know. If you follow the 'rules' you will be fine. That you are asking this question publicly tells me that you won't become that hurried and sloppy nurse that does things just to get them over with. Don't let your fears stop you, you will learn how to be safe in your practice. That being said, we all do make mistakes....that is part of the game.

you can do it!!!

See if you can volunteer on a pediatric unit at a hospital. Good luck!
