Exclamation Internship or not??

HI guys!

I have a question. I'm just finishing doing my prerequisites before starting my nursing program to become an RN. Money is always a big issue in our lives, so obviously getting sponsorship from a local hospital would be such a big help!! But............... am I shooting myself in the foot, by dedicating 1/2 years of my life to one hospital............... what happens if I don't like it?? I would love to hear your ideas and own experiences, as to which is a good direction to go in!!!

Thank you!

year flies by

I think a year really flies by in healthcare since everything is so fast paced. I think the money is well worth staying. I am getting a sign on of 4,000 for a 2 year committment. In that time I can transfer to another unit if I want to in six months. Maybe ICU. Hard to say. Let us know what you decide.

If you don't like it, you leave and pay the consequences. You'll be making more money as an RN than you are now. You'll pay them back if you have to. It's only money.
If you just can't make the commitment to a particular hospital, go the loan route. That way your financial commitment is only to yourself. Again, it's only money.

Two years is a very short time in the course of a nursing career. The first one is long, rough, great, fulfilling, depressing, and any other set of contradcitories you can come up with. Doesn't much matter where you are, the emotions are pretty much the same. The second year gets better as you get better at what you're doing and begin to believe you actually can do the work and move on to really being a nurse.
You're not marrying the hospital, or even getting engaged, just going steady for a couple years.

Wow! Thanks people! I really appreciate your input! I really feel to commit to a hospital too, just that my step-Mum was a RN and strongly advised against it.................. but then, she and I are very different people! I'm all for getting experience, feeling settled, and like you both said..................1/2 years is nothing!

Thank you so much for your friendly advise!!
