Red face I need some advice so bad!!!!!!

Hey I need help on my career. Currently I am in a two year college for the LPN program. But I do not want to become a LPN I just want to get 30 credits to transfer to this college called Georgia Perimeter (GPC) or Georgia State (GSU). The difference between the two is that GPC is a two year college that offers the associates degree and GSU is a four year university that offers a B.S. degree and I have the option of staying on campus. I don’t know what to do. I am 19 years old I will be 20 in April. Should I go with the two year college to hurry up and finish becoming a R.N. or should I go to the university for four long years and get the extra education?? I have to start the college or university next Spring. Somebody with some experience please write me back. I’m new to this website. Also if you know any good books I could study from that I can buy at Barnes and Nobles please let me know. Thank you and God Bless

What can you afford to do? You're not too old to where you need to hurry up and get through a shorter program. If I were you, just speaking from experience, if you can afford to go through the BSN program, go for it. Then you get it over with. When you get your ADN, like I did...knowing you will go back SOME DAY....it's harder to return....you keep putting it off.

I did the ADN program because I was 35 when I went to nursing school. It was my second degree and a third career change. I'm married with bills and couldn't afford the BSN program.

It depends on what's important to you. Hope that helps some. Good luck!

Re: I need some advice so bad!!!!!!

I'm not actually in nursing school yet, but I hear it's hard to get into 2 year college. Harder than a university anyway. They also require you to take day classes. I don't have that option. I'm in Atlanta as well. I've heard some bad stuff at GPC but I'm just going by hearsay. I would never go to Georgia State, but that's just me. Plan to actually go to Kennesaw State University. I hear they have a real good nursing program. Chattahoochee Tech is another option if you decide on the 2 year degree. Again, you gotta deal with getting all your pre-reqs first. I would be interested to know if you can get the same kind of job/make the same amount of money with a 2 year degree myself.

Stay AWAY from Chattahoochie Tech!

I am an adjunct professor in IT there, and an LPN student at North Metro....

The ChattTech program admits more people than they can handle into the LPN program, then does their darnedest to kick them out before clinicals.

Re: I need some advice so bad!!!!!!

Go to the four year program. I will be graduationg from and ADN program this May and I regret not going to a BSN program. I intend to bridge over for the BSN but it will end up adding more time to get the degree. Granted there are benefits to the ADN, mainly that you can work as an RN after two years of school and as you work on the BSN. However, our ADN program is 2 solid years with at least a year of prereqs. So I have already invested 3 years for an associates degree. Go for the BSN if you can. You won't regret it
