I've been licensed in California as an RN for 10 years, worked registry and still own a home there, all my friends and family are there. I moved to TN with my husband for his job and submitted my application for licensure here almost a year ago. It took the BRN here almost 6 months to notify me that they were denying my app since I did not graduate from my nursing program.

I am 1 class short of obtaining my ADN from California, a humanities class. I had an appointment with an academic advisor yesterday at a community college to regsiter for this course, Music Appreciation. Unfortunately the course does not begin until January and finishes in May. So I am now again delayed in obtaining my license here until I can complete that class and submit the transcript to my California College for graduation.

I have traveled back to California since I moved here to work for a few weeks and it was HEAVEN!!!! I saw my family and friends and worked with a lot of my favorite facilities. I guess that is a continuing option for me although I miss my husband when I am gone. On top of all of this, I am unable to find employment here.

I have applied at retail and restaurants and when they see my resume and that I have been an RN for 10 years they don't want to hire me since they feel I will just leave as soon as I am licensed here (true). Someone suggested I try and find a back office job at an MD's office but I'm concerned that I may be inclined to work in "RN mode" since that is my training.

I'm stuck. My California college is not willing to grant me credit for my numerous electives and the BRN here is NO HELP. I want to work here and feel like a contributing part of society. I feel isolated and homesick, worse day by day. My husband has been very supportive and understanding but I'm pretty much on my own with this dilema. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're going to have to bite the bullet and do whatever it takes to finish up your ADN.

What other options are there? There doesn't seem to be an easier softer way for you right now.

Can you find a quicker class that your college will accept -- e.g. some quickie online course that you can do in 5 or 6 weeks? -- or some other short, intense course that your college will accept?

Any ideas on where to find that? I contacted my California college and they, as usual have no ideas. If there is a "short line" for this, I'm on it.
