Hello. I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there like me. I failed out of nursing school my last semester (it is a BSN program). In my program, you only get one repeat. I already used that repeat in my OB semester. I passed that class just fine the second time around. I did appeal and was denied the chance to repeat the final semester. I feel like I let my family down. My parents had already ordered graduation invitations and booked a hotel for my family to stay at. I came so close to finishing and now I'm not graduating. You can imagine the things that are being said about me by my family. It is very frustrating to be laughed at by people who are related to you...even my grandmother makes rude comments. That's a whole different issue.

However, I have been looking at other programs and there is a possibility that I could get into another program in the fall as a senior. I really feel like nursing is the career for me. I love working with patients and doing the responsibilities of a RN. I just have doubts in the back of my mind that I may fail again. It would be nice to know that other people have been in a similar situation and made it.

Good luck to you. Would you qualify to take NCLEX-PN where you live. Then perhaps you can start working and go LPN to RN? Just a thought.

An LVN w/16 yrs L&D experience was in our nrsg class. She failed in the last rotation. Guess what she did - she went to another school and eventually got her MSN.

I would get your LPN and they do an ADN program... Don't let this stop you. You are so close.

Some things to consider in regard to the doubts in the back of your mind...

What was the official reason you failed the class? Do you agree with that reason? Do you feel that reason legitimately reflects a problem in regard to your potential future as a nurse? If so, is there anything you can do to improve in that regard? Are you motivated to do so? If you feel the reason for the failed class doesn't truly reflect your abilities, can you identify what the problem was? (personality conflict with the instructor? poor testing performance? random bad luck?) Your answer to these questions might shed light upon your decision to continue to try again at another school.

It's also probably good to attempt to separate out your feelings toward nursing and the failure of that class (and thus the program) from the feelings of embarrassment & resentment you may have regarding the family knowing and how they have responded. And know that there's no shame in failing a course or failing out of a program. Either it's a useful sign to move in another direction or it's a challenging opportunity to persistently pursue your goals and grow in priceless ways that you can't even predict at this point.

It sounds like you feel pretty confident about wanting to be a nurse; if you otherwise did well in your courses and clinicals, I'd say go for it and try again.

I would whole heartly agree with JJOY response.

The only thing I have to add is...

Most success springs from an obstacle or failure. Like JJoy said if nursing is what you truly want to--->by all means, Got out there and get it!!! Let this motivate you not detour you. (I know that easy for me to say right now) But you are what you think, seriously.

If nursing is what you really want, start looking into another BSN program.
You may not be so happy at being successful at something you hate.

I personally would NOT...look for a LPN program. You started out in a BSN program... The only limitations you have are those accepted in your own mind. EVEN THE BEST FAIL (Do you know how many times Babe Ruth failed before he start hitting home runs?) I think you would be more prepared now for a BSN program. (Having started out in one) However, I do not know all the factors. As JJoy said self-evaluate yourself and the situation and go from there.

I also failed my last course for LPN. I was devastated, but I had a lot going on in my life. I am trying to get back into again. It has been a year this summer. My problem is being able to find a job where I can get off work to get to class on time since classes start at 4:30 or 5:00 which is the time I get off of work.

I have read that if you have completed more than half of the BSN program with clinicals then you could go to the distance learning route through excelsior. If I can't get back in then I will have to start over in an accelerated program since I hold a BA degree.

Whatever you do don't give up. I thought about giving up, but I sacraficed so much to get into nursing and I feel like a looser now that I have not set out what I had planned to do. I will keep striving that is all I can do.
