I was let go yesterday for not "fitting in" with the other staff. Because I chose not to be in a click with the others, I was told I was not a team player. But just a week ago, my EX supervisor told me that I should just come in do my job and try not to get involved with the others who sit there and talk about other nurses etc. Yesterday I am told that I wasn't being a team player because I was so busy that I didn't sit down and talk to all the other people working that day and I only focused on my patients. I had 3 discharges and one fresh post op to deal with along with being in charge of the whole floor. Upon being let go, things were brought up about past issues that were never written up but only talked about and also they tried to blame a local doctor for writing me up for something I didn't do. They told me NOT to mention any of this to the doctor because it wasn't any of his business. Now why wouldn't I call this particular doctor and ask him what his problem with me was? He is my personal physician to top it all off!!!! I think he would be very ****** if he found out that my EX supervisor used him as a reason to let me go as well. So what do you think? Hire a lawyer for letting me go as a wrongful termination? Unfair practice with me as a nurse? Blaming a doctor for my being let go as well but told not to tell him about the whole thing? And when I got home, I found that they had shorted me on my check for my last day worked and the previous 2 weeks that I had worked! I have never been paid right since I started working there and promises were made all the time about things and those things never happened either. Any suggestions as to what you would do in this situation? I have been told by other members on this board that I need counseling........but I don't believe counseling is going to get my job back or make me want to stay in nursing after all this. I tried so very hard to work in this previous job and did everything I could to help out like work extra shifts, deal with my short paychecks, etc but none of this made any difference when they just let me go after a few nurses commented on me not being a team player that day! I know that you can be fired for any reason, but there has got to be something that I can do to prevent things like this happening to anyone else. I am tired of nurses being pushed around and made to feel inadequate at everything they do for no reason and also to be blamed for what doctors and others do. Thanks for letting me vent. I don't think I want to stay in nursing any longer after this. The stress is just too much and it's not worth it when they can turn your license in for whatever they want to. I have never had a discipline on my license by the way, because the board found that I have never done any thing wrong.

Why would you want this job back? If it is the hellhole you describe, being fired is a blessing. If I were you, I would make sure to get the money owed to me, but I certainly wouldn't put myself through the stress of trying to find a way to sue them for wrongful termination. In the end, the doctor thing doesn't really matter, cause it sounds like they would have let you go anyways so I would just let it go. Just take a breath, and a hot bath, and find another job you can enjoy. Ask yourself what you could do better in your next job and try to implement any changes you feel you need to, but don't obsess over one bad experience.

I would happily walk away from this job if I were you. It seems their whole mentality it "d*mned if you do, d*mned if you don't." Start looking for a job at a hospital that it UNIONIZED. Sometimes, at these facilities, the staff is more supportive and bonded together and you can have an advocate if you must go up against your management. JMO. Oh, and I'd write a quick e-mail to this doc like, "just so you know...." and be fairly breezy about it.

I think it was a blessing in disguise. You can work anywhere and should'nt worry about if your going to get hired. They sound like they were a bunch of jerks anyways who needs em. *kiddin* LOL
