How do I get started???

Hi everyone!! I am very interested in changing my career, from chef to nurse, but I'm not sure how to go about doing so. Someone told me that I should go to nursing tech school (about 6 weeks) and then get hired on at a hospital. After working with the hospital I can start nursing school and then they will reimburse me for tuition. Does any of this sound right, or should I be taking some other steps? Can anyone please give me some advise?!?

Try the community colleges in your area and also your community hospitals. I went to the community college in my area and applied for state scholarship. Most of the hospitals here also offer nursing scholarships with the stipulation that you work for them after graduation for certain number of years. Just inquire around, it won't hurt. Good luck!

I'm not sure what a "nursing tech school" is? Is that like getting CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) training? That is a very good step to get your feet wet and to start gaining experience. As for attending nursing school, to become an RN, many community colleges offer nursing programs. Contact an adviser at a community college and they will help you outline a course of study. Good luck!

Talk to your local nursing schoo admission counselor to get an idea of the process.

What you're being told is true. Most hospitals have a tuition reimbursement program for their employees. Some will pay 100% others have a cap of how much they will pay (it's $2200 per year where I work).

Good luck to you!
