Hiring and education question

Hello Everyone,
I am contemplating a career change from education to nursing and have a quick question. I am applying to entry level, pre-licensing MSN programs in California because I already have a BA and a MA in another field. But I heard from someone that many places are not interested in hiring nurses with BAs, but only hire nurses with AA degrees. I have no idea if this is true or not in California, or anywhere else.
Thanks for your opinions,
-Jon McIntyre

Re: Hiring and education question

For entry level nursing positions BSNs are hired right alongside ASN.

I would say what you are hearing is only rumor. If anything in some areas the oppositite is the case. Some hospitals perfer BSN RNs and not ASN's. I've never heard the opposite. Sometimes you will get a nurse recruiter that buys into the myth that BSNs are just pencial pushers without good clinical experience in school and they personall perfer ASNs, but as a rule, all RN graduate enjoy opportunity for employment.

Good luck.

Re: Hiring and education question

I've heard the same thing before as well. I guess it's a thing with being seen as saddled with unnecessary education to work in nursing. However, I say go for whatever will meet your goals.
