The one-year program you're referring to is actually the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) educational track. To become a nurse practitioner, it will take 6 years (4 years for the BSN degree and 2 years of FNP school).
Whatever you decide, be aware that the registered nurse licensure will provide you with more career mobility and higher earnings overall when compared to the licensed practical nurse career pathway. In my area, for every LPN job listed, there are five RN jobs listed. Good luck!
