Help!!! Prior Conviction

I am currently a nursing student. I will be graduating 12/09. I want to know if there will be any potential licensing problems I may face; because I have a prior conviction that is now considered dismissed which occured 6 years ago.

I want to know what I can do on my end to make this process simpler. What kind of leg work can I do to help the California State Board by providing court documentations, expungement records and/or any other other documentation.

PLEASE HELP... I need to know what is required of me to do when applying for licensure.

Re: Help!!! Prior Conviction

I can't tell you specifics for that state board but a friend of mine had a conviction for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest when he was 20 or so. In theory the charges were expunged but when he moved back to that state he was turned down for his licence for "lying on his application" When asked on the app. if he had any criminal record he said no- thinking it had been erased. Guess again. The end result was 6 mos delay in getting his licence, reapplying for the licence(with new application fees) a moderate fine, and going before the board to explain what he was charged with and why he "lied" about it. The moral- honesty is the best policy.

Re: Help!!! Prior Conviction

You will need to contact the BRN if for the RN license, or the Board for the LVN license and get their take on it. They are the only ones that can make the determination for you, and they review each and every file on its own merits.

Best of luck to you. This thread is being closed per the TOS of this site. We cannot offer legal advice on this matter.
