HELP!! Need Training For Re-entry to Hospital

Hi Everyone...

My first post and first day here. I have been working in Utilization Review for the past 5.5 years and have been an ADN for 7. My hospital experience is in ICU and Ortho (though outdated for sure). I currently live in Austin, Texas and am trying to find a hospital that would be willing to "re-train" me in exchange for an agreement to work in their facility for X amount of time. I have not been able to find any facility in Austin willing to do this. I would be willing to relocate if there is assistance available. Eventually, I would like to go back and get my Masters.

Does anyone know of any facilities offering re-training to already licensed RNs? Thanks so much and I hope everyone is having a great day

Re: HELP!! Need Training For Re-entry to Hospital

The answer to this question probably lies in the condition of the nursing job market in any given area.

A few years ago, while living in Chicago, a neighbor of mine returned to hospital practice after 10 years off to raise her children. She was hired by a local hospital with the expectation of a "new grad" type of oreintation, and did very well.

In markets where hospitals don't have as many unfilled positions, an employer may expect you to take a refresher course on your own time and money and then apply for a job.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Jolie - In Austin it costs over 2k to take the refresher course. I am a single mom with a kiddo in college - too steep for me.

Re: HELP!! Need Training For Re-entry to Hospital

What about going for a clinic like an urgent care associated with a hospital and start back there? Your not alone in this enviroment and have a NP or PA there usually. If the staff knows ypu want to get back into it most are very helpful. I worked in LTC for years before I went back for my RN. I thought that it would be a good idea to change to acute care when I finally was ready to start the RN nursing program....I made myself sick with anxiety the first day I went to work on the M/S floor. The staff was helpful and I realized shortly that I was freaking myself out with self doubt. I did just fine and I would encourage you to at least try.
