Getting Started

Hey guys! This is my first thread here so I hope I do everything right.

Anyway!

I want to be a nurse. Maybe do something drastic like Psychiatric. But I'm not sure yet. What I want to know is how you all got started. I'm fresh out of High school and don't know where to turn. I just made up my mind about nursing so I haven't applied at any schools. Have any of you gotten where you are through the Military? How did that work? I guess, just let me know how you got started and that would really help me out a lot! I know I can do this on my own I just really don't want to!

Thanks so much for doing the jobs you all do! You are all great blessing and incredibly talented! God bless each and everyone of you.

Re: Getting Started

Nice to meet you. Welcome to Allnurses!!!

It's probably best to visit your local nursing school and talk to an advisor live in person, whom will explain the process. Many nursing schools have "pre-reqs" which are courses like Anatomy and Phisiology that you need prior to applying to actual nursing school. There are many other courses such as math, English, etc. that you need. Some of which are going to be unique depending on what you've had in high school. For example if you haven't had any high school Algerbra and Chemistry you have have to start there.

Good luck!
