Question Excelsior College- any grads here?

I an a NY LPN with two jobs and four kids. I've been hearing about excelsior college as a way to complete my degree at home. Their website is pretty vague about how it works. I have 80+ credits worth of "liberal arts" classes; I just need the core nursing classes and a couple sciences to graduate. I understand that there isn't a residency requirement, so I can transfer all my credits in. If this is for real, I could have my degree in a year's time- but I'm skeptical.

What I would like to know is exactly how the distance-learning program works and if there's anyone who actually got a degree through them. I've also heard about an $800 graduation fee- is this true?

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi there... a successful and VERY satisfied EC Grad here. Graduated Dec. 2002.

I would advise you to go over to the Distance Learning Forum... there you'll find all the info you need on EC, and personal successes.

Wish you the best as you persue your goals !

Graduated Dec 2001. Definately felt it was a good program and definately glad I did it. I'm like you in that all I needed was the core classes and clinical. The program cost me $9,500 total and I only used the free study guides provided by Excelsior. That cost comes from books, exam fees, registration fee, CPNE fee, graduation fees. I did pay as you go so it wasn't bad at all. Good Luck.

If you already have your pre-reqs, the LPN to ADN is about $5K

Re: Excelsior College- any grads here?

DO NOT even consider Excelsior College!!!!!!!
Too many state boards of nursing are no longer recognizing their nursing program. You won't even be allowed to test !! Other states are expected to follow. Also, just because you are RN licensed in one state, doesn't mean the next state will license you. i.e. usually you will be required to provide nursing school transcripts. If that school isn't accredited - you will not be granted licensure by endorsement.

Don't waste your time or money.

Excelsior is accredited by the NLN. I'd like to inquire about your personal experience with Excelsior?

I am an LPN doing the online Excelsior program and was told by the state that is was okay to get the license in another state and transfer, I live in Ga and there is something going on now in the news about me not being able to transfer my license now. I am only a few months from graduating and very tired and frustrated. Everyone is very vague about what is going on as far as legislature. If anyone has any concrete information I would very much be grateful.
