Does anyone know the Lake City, FL area?

My family and I may move to the LaKe City area soon, and I will be looking for a position in a hospital. I have been at my first job for 12 years as an RN at an HCA hospital. It is a little scary thinking about moving out of the comfort-zone , but it is time. Can anyone give any opinions about living in this area (any specific area to avoid) and/ or the different hospitals working conditions?

I live in Kissimmee, Fl and don't know much about Lake City but why don't you check the HCA site and see if there any facilities right in and around the area. I worked for HCA for over 7 both in El Paso and here in Kissimmee(left 6 months to go with HMA hospital) and when I moved it was a corporate transfer(my insurance kicked in immediately and maintained my tenure with the corporation as well). If there is any facility in the area go through your HR and call the facility as well for job availability/interviewing etc, HR can then setup your transfer. HCA has facilities throughout the state, I enjoyed very much working for them but had some problems that were facility based nothing to do with HCA. Good luck flaerman

Re: Does anyone know the Lake City, FL area?

Hey there, I am not a nurse, however, I live in Gainesville. Gainesville is in Alachua County which is the county just south of Colombia county (Lake City). There is a hospital in LC, don't remember the name, small hospital. BUt, if you are willing to make a 45 min. drive, we have Shands in Gainesville, one of the top hospitals in the country. It is part of the University of Florida, and has many jobs available in nursing in any department. Specifically, Shands has nationally known burn unit, pediatrics, level 1 trauma center, as well as NICU 3. There is also North Florida Regional in Gainesville, very good hospital as well. Well, look into these if you have no luck in Lake City. It is a lengthy drive, but I drive 50 miles to work as an EMT in Marion County, its not too bad. Anyway, check these out:

Hope this helps, Greg
