CNA or Vacation???

I'm a college student and on a waiting list for ADN's. I have no courses to take this summer. Should I get my CNA while waiting for classes to take or enjoy a vacation. HELP!

I asked the same question 6 years ago when I was accepted into the Fall Nursing Program of my mentor, another wonderful nurse. She told me that I was about to embark on two very busy and stressful years and that I should just enjoy my summer and my kids and husband and not worry about taking a CNA class.

It was great advice. For me, nursing school was stressful and quite a juggling act. My school was 70 miles away. I had 3 kids from 1st grade to 6th and 8th. I spent the summer doing fun things with my kids and spending time with my husband.

You learn the CNA stuff at the beginning of your nursing classes anyway. Making beds, bed baths, etc. All important stuff in order to work as a team when you become a RN. But why take it twice when you don't have to?

My advice is the same as I got 6 years ago. Take the summer off and enjoy yourself. Rest. Have fun.

Best wishes.

Chill out. I would not take it if you don't have too. It's different if your already a CNA. Yes, you do have edge over some students, but everyone catches up. Although, some programs are requiring students to get certified, don't waste your money if you don't have too.

Take a chill pill this summer!
