can't find a med-surg position

Hi all!

I just graduated in December, and passed my boards a couple of weeks ago. I had origionally wanted to go into perhaps psych, or something like that. After being a member here and reading all of the wisdom, and learning that I really know nothing, I decided that I would do med surge. I need to learn skills, I need to learn time management, I need to learn!

Now, my problem is that there are NO med surge postitions around me. There are 4 hospitals in a 30 minute radius, no positions. I though about going further but having a 12 hour shift (which usually lasts 13-14 hours) then an hour drive on both sides of that just feel dangerous to me.

I have seen telemetry positions around, but I really didnt like that too much, not to mention that I have a slight hearing issue, and I would never be able to live with missing some sort of important alarm.

I am not sure if I am putting too many limitations on what I will take. There are sub-acute units around, but I have worked in long term care for a long time and I am ready for a change. ~

any insight? ideas? advise?

Thanks for reading this far!!
