can i use them as a reference?

Hi everyone! I am a recent LPN-RN graduate. I left my job of 2 years as an LPN without giving a 2 weeks notice. I am now trying to get into an ER position at another hospital. They require med/surg experiance so I used my past job as a reference. Is this going to keep me from getting hired?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they can legally say anything except that yes, you worked there during the time you said you did or no, you didn't work there.

Re: can i use them as a reference?

Call up your old hospital's HR and ask them what information they give for reference checks. Usually they'll say dates of employment and position worked.

However, with close hospitals, they can have an under-the-table agreement with other hospitals to give, and receive, detailed reference checks on past employees.

Tell the truth (in the most positive light possible), because being caught in a lie will burn your bridges fast.
