I am a student in my third semester of college and i am taking all the pre requisites required for an RN certification. Is there a way to complete an RN degree within a year through an accellerated RN program where I would only have to complete the nursing courses?

I'm doing that now. I took prereqs and will be technically entering the BSN program as a junior. It's 4 semesters combined, but one of those semesters is a summer. So I guess it's technically a year and a half, but I'm only taking nursing classes.

Search for "accelerated BSN programs" whereever you want to go to school and hopefully you'll find something!

I'm confused..I thought there were 2 semesters in a year..plus a summer one. So woudln't it be 2 years..not one year? Ours is 4 semesters plus a summer too..and its 2 years long. (RN).

Not that I am aware of. If you include the time I spent getting pre-reqs out of the way (while waiting for my turn on the waiting list) and add that to the 5 semesters of nursing classes I will have been in school for 5 years. I think that 4 years is common, but I went p/t due to children.

Nope. ADN programs are typically 4 semesters long with just the nursing classes alone. Often you need a semester or two beforehand as well to take the prereqs - chemistry, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, etc.

Accelerated BSN programs are for students who already have a Bachelor's degree in another major. It's simply doing all the nursing courses since the general education stuff (history, psychology, etc.) has already been taken care of.

I am in an accellerated RN program, but I already have a Bachelors. There were about a year of pre'req's and our program is a total of 9 months. It is full time 9-4 most days, and extremely fast paced. I would only recommend a program like this for people that don't mind putting their lives on hold for a while. I am glad I am in this program though and can't wait until graduation gets here. We had a 97% NCLEX passing rate last year and I have high hopes for my classmates and I that we have 100% this year.
