I probably would not answer this ad. I don't even answer ads that offer sign on bonuses. The reason being that if they need to offer such hefty sign on bunuses then staffing must be REALLY bad. If hospitals are really serious about fixing the staffing problem, then I feel that more permanent financial incentives should be offered, not just a one time bonus. Besides, the staffing crunch is not really about money anyway, now is it?

We promise enought time to do physical and emotional care as well as charting. Medications and supplies are there when needed, lab, X-ray and other tests are done quickly with the results available . There is a system for getting extra staff in the event of admissions, codes, emergency surgeries, or transfers.
The management realizes the purpose of a hospital is NURSING CARE. If someone does not need nursing care they are not admitted to the hospital. This means NURSES ARE OUR MOST VALUBLE RESOURCE! If you are willing and able to give the finest quality care please apply.

I agree with goldilocksrn! It would be so great to work for a place like that. I thought where I work wasn't too bad until I read about valuing the nurse and respecting them. We actually got our nurse care hours increased (after 3 yrs of asking and proving the need with reports of acuity and taking on new treatments) and a raise (because we were among the lowest pay scales in TX, we couldn't keep nurses!). There is still a lack of respect for what we do though. We seem to be treated like what we do is never good enough.

This must be that hospital that nurses work at after they die and go to nurse heaven.

You nurses are saying it true! How can we let the hospitals who are crying "shortage" know THIS is how to recruit nurses. Do you think word of mouth would do it once the change giving an excellent work enviornment for nurses (and quality care for patients)
was made?

It's been awhile since anyone posted on this thread. My 2 cents worth. Spacenurse it was well done and the many responses too. One area that wasn't commented on was the reasons patient are in the hospital and that is to receive our professional nursing care. Nursing care is the hospitals main product but the bean counters don't realize it. Sadly most nurses don't either.

You know it's true that patients are there to receive our professional nursing care", so why isn't this information put out there where the patients can be informed of it BEFORE their stay with us????? We need to get local newspapers to print some stories about their local hospitals and what goes on in them.

Cool

In as much as most of the replies said that there "ain't no such place", I beg to differ. I had the privilege of working in a hospital that upheld about 75% of what was in the ad! OK, so the doctors weren't always polite and collaborative, and we didn't have a contingency plan for codes, late
call-offs, etc., but here's what we did have:

1. The support and guidance from our Nursing VP that encouraged us to be GREAT nurses. She was not only visionary, but was able to design and implement an interdisciplinary practice model that gave us the tools we needed to give the best nursing and medical care around.

2. An environment that challenged us far beyond what we thought we could do--creating the best hospital in town was no easy task. Everyone worked hard to see it become a reality and to uphold the standards. The rewards were huge--not only happy patients and happy staff, but a sense of camaraderie among the staff that broke down lots of barriers and gave us an appreciation of the importance of EVERYONE's role in the daily grind of providing care.

This may sound a little grandiose, but I am serious when I say it can exist--I was fortunate enough to be a part of it while it was in existence. Unfortunately, this same hospital was purchased by a for-profit organization that did a real "rape-and-pillage", and it is now a vacant building. It was a real loss to the community--one of two level 1 trauma centers in the region as well as having some excellent programs in different specialties.

As to whether I would answer an ad like this--I don't think so. What is described there is as close to nursing nirvana as anyone could imagine, and I don't believe any organization could possibly offer ALL that! I guess I just consider myself lucky to have experienced SOME of that :-)

True but sad that the opportunity to work very hard giving quality, safe, compassionate care is thought of as nirvana. Whatever happened to respect for an honest days(or nights) work?
Yoy are so correct in saying patient care is the purpose of any hospital.
Nursing care is the ONLY reason for a hospital.
